TRAC Launches New Sensory Hour Every Sunday

Creating a more comfortable and inclusive aquatic experience for our community.

Thomastown Recreation & Aquatic Centre (TRAC) is pleased to introduce Sensory Hour, a dedicated low-sensory swim session designed to provide a calmer and more welcoming environment for individuals who benefit from reduced sensory stimulation.

Starting Sunday 27 September, Sensory Hour will run every Sunday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

During this time, TRAC will take steps to minimise visual and auditory stimulation throughout the centre, creating a quieter and more comfortable experience for participants and their families. To support this environment:

  • Music will be turned off
  • Water features on the pool deck will be switched off
  • TV screens will be dimmed or turned off where possible
  • Noise and sensory distractions will be reduced throughout the facility

Sensory Hour has been created to support community members who may find busy aquatic environments overwhelming, including people with sensory sensitivities, autism, anxiety, or those who simply prefer a quieter space to enjoy the water.

At TRAC, we are committed to providing inclusive opportunities that allow everyone to participate in aquatic recreation with confidence and comfort. By offering a dedicated low-sensory session each week, we hope to make our facilities more accessible and welcoming for all.
